Netflix’s documentary on Florida Gators under Urban Meyer has release date, per report

Netflix’s documentary on the Florida Gators under Urban Meyer will be released in August, it was revealed on Saturday.

The documentary called “Swamp Things” will highlight the 2006-2009 Gators, according to an Instagram post by former Florida star Brandon Siler.

In August of 2022, in the height of Netflix’s “Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist,” which details the bizarre details of former Notre Dame star Manti Te’o being catfished, SEC Network analyst Paul Finebaum inadvertently revealed the streaming service had its next project decided.

Finebaum, who joined “The Opening Kickoff” on WNSP-FM 105.5, last year said he hadn’t seen the Te’o documentary, but he said he heard about it when he was doing “a long shoot for Netflix a few months ago.”

“It’s more about a school but also a well-known and famous coach who I think gave an interview for it,” Finebaum said about his interview for the project without naming the school or the coach.

Finebaum said the school was in the south (in fact, a neighboring state) and listeners of “The Opening Kickoff” would be interested.

The Gators won two national titles in three seasons in the timeframe of the documentary. It should make for compelling viewing as there was quite a contrast of players on Meyer’s roster. There were a number of off-the-field legal issues while the team was led by Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow.
